- Chakalaka is a traditional South African spicy vegetable relish, served as a side or condiment with barbecued meats, chicken, curries, mashed potato or as part of a ploughman's platter.

Ingredients
- 150 g brown onion, cut into quarters
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 cm piece fresh ginger, peeled
- 2 carrots, cut into pieces (3 cm)
- 1 red capsicum, deseeded and cut into pieces (3 cm)
- 1 green capsicum, deseeded and cut into pieces (3 cm)
- 2 - 3 fresh red bird's eye chillies, trimmed
- 20 g olive oil
- 50 g tomato paste
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tbsp curry powder
- 1 ripe tomato, cut into pieces (3 cm)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 pinches ground black pepper
- 300 g tinned baked beans (with sauce - see Tips)
Instructions
- Place onion, garlic and ginger into mixing bowl and chop 3 sec/speed 5. Transfer into a bowl and set aside.
- Place carrots, capsicums and chillies into mixing bowl and chop 2 sec/speed 5.
- Add oil, tomato paste, paprika, curry powder and reserved onion mixture and cook 5 min/100°C/speed 1.
- Add tomato, salt and pepper and cook 15 min/100°C/speed 1, placing simmering basket instead of measuring cup onto mixing bowl lid.
- Add beans and cook 3 min/100°C/speed 1. Serve warm or cold (see Tips).
